Michael Klein, CEO of Freedom Financial Funds, LLC, serves on the board of directors for nonprofit Homes 4 Families, where he contributes his financial knowledge in furtherance of the organization’s mission of building affordable housing, helping low-income veterans achieve home ownership, and supporting communities for veterans and their families.
Klein said, “When I was asked if I could take some of my finance skills and help this company serve its mission of building houses for veterans that they end up raising their families in and getting a head start after serving our country, I said, ‘Absolutely!’”
In addition to his board position, Klein is also the chair of the organization’s signature OVER THE EDGE (OTE) event, slated this year for October 29th. In honor of the brave men and women who have risked it all to protect the American Dream, daring donors will rappel down the face of the Hilton Universal City Hotel — led by Klein himself.
OTE is one of the organization’s key fundraising events, and this year’s goal is to raise $150,000. Proceeds will help with the completion of a new 56-home community in Palmdale, Calif.
Klein is sounding the call for intrepid adventurers to join the cause. This is a real-life opportunity to be a super hero — and costumes are encouraged! Sponsors can fly solo or participate as a group, with packages ranging from $1,500 to $25,000. The event promises to be a memorable team-building exercise and a chance to do something truly courageous.
Klein describes his role with Homes 4 Families as “super meaningful work.” Veterans who receive houses sponsored by Homes 4 Families must contribute 500 hours of sweat equity to qualify. “So there’s no free lunch — they don’t want a free lunch,” Klein said. “It really has been heartwarming to watch what is happening with the families. … The smiles on their faces at the end of the day — pretty amazing.”
According to Klein, hanging by a thread on the side of a 24-story high-rise goes against his “every instinct of survival,” but he is happy to take the challenge “in support of our wonderful mission.” For those who would like to donate and either participate or simply watch Klein and his companions practice their Spidey skills, visit: https://support.homes4families.org/campaign/go-over-the-edge-for-veterans-2022-fundraiser/c401836.
